Storage Tips

1. Plan Ahead

Place frequently used items near the front of the unit and leave a walkway/path to access the rear of the unit.

2. Prep Unit

Prepare the space by placing 2 X 4’s or pallets on the floor underneath your goods to guard against dampness.  Do not place boxes directly on concrete.

3. Be Careful

Never store anything COMBUSTIBLE (e.g., paint thinner, gasoline, solvents, kerosene, bottled gas, aerosol cans, nail polish and remover, ammunition and explosives, corrosives, cleaning fluids, detergents and paint). Drain fluids prior to storing lawn and garden equipment. When storing dishes and glassware, wrap individually, pad with bubble wrap or packing paper.

4. Extra Space

Furniture with drawers can be used to store pictures, knick-knacks, silverware, and other small items. Wrap in tablecloths, towels or blankets to prevent breakage.

5. Sofas/Love Seats

Sofas and love seats can be stored on end to save floor space. Remember to place a protective cover under the item on the concrete. Cushions should be wrapped in plastic and placed on top.

6. Stuffed Furniture

To protect against dust, cover stuffed furniture with cardboard or blankets.

7. No Food Items

To prevent the attraction of bugs and rodents, do not store food items.

8.  Metal

Wipe the surfaces of metal items such as bicycles and tools with a few drops of machine oil to retard rusting.
